Post no. 13: Unintentionality, you must be having fun with me.
It’s been over a week since my last post. For the first time since starting this, I haven’t felt a need to write a diary to even somehow be working on this project. (But don’t get me wrong, that waltz of self-belief and questioning is still very much on.)
The reason is that quite unexpectedly, an inspiration stroke — twice.
Last week I locked myself out of my home and went to my workspace while waiting to get a spare key. As I sat there playing piano, this time not to create something, but simply to kill time, a flood of meaningfulness swiped through me. A connection.
Instead of being angry at myself for my human stupidity, I allowed the moment to be what it was. It was almost as if inspiration would have made me lock myself out of home to get to spend this casual, unintentional moment by the piano with me.
Just the two of us.
Sitting there, my jacket still on, I played three chords. And for some reason those were exactly the ones I needed to play. It’s a strange feeling, somehow to find the right ones, be it words, melodies, chords, anything. They are not any different from any other ones. But somehow sometimes you just find the right ones.
Just 15 minutes later my phone rang: I’d get my keys sooner than in thought. More than relieved, I was annoyed.
A week later, again just for fun, I played those three chords again at my family’s house while waiting for others to come back from shopping groceries.
They were still right.
The words are not coming yet. I mean lyrics. But that’s fine. It’s the music that’s now started to speak through me again. I can always put my words here.
